Relaxing opportunity to enjoy nature

Kayak: rent an ocean kayak and explore the near-by lagoon

Explore leisurely the near-by Peje-Perrito lagoon on a large and comfortable kayak – early in the morning or late in the evening – to see the tropical lowland ecosystem up-close. You will discover a wide variety of wading birds (like herons, egrets, ibis, and roseate spoonbills), along monkeys, crocodiles and caimans. Don’t worry: the latter swim away!

You can explore the water’s edge for excellent early morning bird watching, paddle with a string and hook in tow to catch a snook, or just drift where the wind takes you as fish jump out of the water for their bug bit.

It is approximately a 2hour round trip with a 15minute walk to the kayaks.

How to get ready:

  • Wear comfy short pants and top. We would recommend a swimsuit too, chances are you are going to get wet
  •  If you want to bring your camera, make sure it is waterproof or protected in a watertight zip case.
  • Don’t forget your sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat – the sun is hitting pretty hard, especially when you are surrounded by reflecting water.

We are nestled in between the palms and the beach in Carate. Carate is a remote part of the southern coast of the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica located 42 kilometers from Puerto Jimenez. Beyond Matapalo you will find us down the road to the Corcovado National Park on the right just before the runway.
